HV Infrastructure Installation to support new site supply
HV Infrastructure Installation to support new site supply
Operational NHS General Hospital Site
Installation of high voltage (HV) infrastructure to support a new HV supply provided by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO). This project aimed to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant installation of new HV systems while maintaining operational standards at the healthcare site.
The Objectives
- Provide new HV infrastructure to support the new site supply.
- Conduct detailed surveys, including Ground Penetrating Radar and Topographical scans, to identify existing services and optimise HV route design.
- Implement and maintain safe, efficient traffic and pedestrian management throughout
all phases of the project. - Ensure compliance with healthcare industry standards and best practices for HV installation, prioritising operational continuity and site safety.
- Execute excavation and installation of HV infrastructure within the planned timeline, aligning with healthcare site requirements.
- Develop a robust infrastructure for future HV resilience, supporting both present needs and scalable growth.
Challenges
- Managing complex traffic and pedestrian flows around the site, particularly during peak operational hours, while ensuring safety for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Identifying any unknown service routes through GPR scans and thorough ground surveys to minimize disruption to existing infrastructure.
- Planning and executing new HV cable raoutes with minimal impact on the busy healthcare environment, safeguarding uninterrupted daily operations.
- Coordinating major equipment deliveries and HV infrastructure installation within a controlled healthcare environment, balancing safety and project efficiency.
The Solution
- Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Management: Implemented and maintained detailed traffic and pedestrian management plans throughout the project, minimizing disruption and maximizing site safety.
- Secure and Resilient Design: Installed a resilient infrastructure that includes inspection chambers, enhancing access for future works.
- Comprehensive Site Collaboration: Worked closely with healthcare site stakeholders, DNO representatives and site operational team ensuring timely delivery through a coordinated approach.
Successful Outcomes
The site now benefits from:
- Increased electrical resilience and expanded capacity for future needs.
- Improved operational efficiency, with minimized risk to existing services.
Thank you to all who played part in the team effort to bring this project to successful completion.
